A spicy and taut BL romance starring the alpha and omega of the K-pop world! Mixing music and omegaverse seduction, this oneshot manga pairs a newcomer alpha boy band member with an established star who has a secret—his group may not be “all-alpha” as it claims…

Eri’s boy band Vinks has just debuted! People assume success comes naturally to him since he’s an alpha, but actually, as the youngest member, he has to work twice as hard. His exceptional dancing lands him a solo session with Sooyoung Lee, a top idol from an all-alpha group called α-code. The piece they’re dancing to is a nostalgic hit that started a “destined mate” craze. The lyrics—“You spark my heart, I need you right now”—always felt like a faraway dream to Eri. So why does Sooyoung smell so sweet? Can it be that this celebrity isn’t so “all-alpha” after all?!

This is a fun, steamy addition to the Omegaverse genre of boys love manga. Now, the manga doesn’t have an introductory section explaining Omegaverse and its mechanics like others do, so in this story, the rules and history behind Omegaverse is sprinkled in throughout. Readers unfamiliar with this special subgenre may feel a little lost at first, but I think the world of alphas and omegas becomes clearer as you read along.

The manga starts with a two-page flash forward, where at a dance rehearsal, Sooyoung admits to being an Omega to a bewildered Eri, warning him not to share this information.

Then immediately we go back to the moment where we see Eri is a successful idol, the only Alpha in Vinks, and he’s also the group’s maknae, or youngest member. Eri has caught the eye of a successful producer who wants to pair him up with Sooyoung, the main dancer of the all-Alpha group α-code. The idea is the two dance to a ballad about fated mates.

At first Eri experiences some trepidation and shocked that he’d be paired up with someone like Sooyoung, but he decides to go all out for it.

Eri is sort of gobsmacked by Sooyoung when they have their first rehearsal together–it’s also the two’s first meeting–and he quickly sees how Sooyoung is an incredible dancer. He’s overwhelmed by Sooyoung and makes mistakes while they are dancing together, but Sooyoung is surprisingly kind about it.

Then Eri gets a shocking whiff of sweetness, and it turns out to be Omega pheromones coming off of Sooyoung. Sooyoung takes inhibitors for it but his meds don’t appear to be working, so he and Eri hook up to alleviate any distress for Sooyoung. Of course, during sex Eri loses control and ends up biting Sooyoung’s nape, which is how an Alpha and Omega become an official mated pair.

The talent agency finds out about the illicit pairing and demands Eri undo it, because if Sooyoung is revealed to be an Omega, it would doom α-code. Eri asks for them to live as a couple in secret for one month, including moving in together. Eri has fallen for Sooyoung and wants the best for him, but also wants to be with him.

In the meantime, Eri and Sooyoung’s dancing exudes a sexiness and intimacy that wasn’t there before, which is causing people to pay more attention to them.

There are more trials and tribulations along the way–keeping all of these secrets are a challenge as even the public starts growing suspicious of Eri and Sooyoung’s closeness (through social media photos and the like). There is an Alpha in α-code that watches over Sooyoung a little too closely and threatens Eri, and then there’s the repeated hookups between Eri and Sooyoung, which only complicates their relationship.

I’m not going to go beyond that, but suffice it to say I thought this was a solid Omegaverse story with gorgeous illustrations and plenty of spicy scenes. I liked the setting of the entertainment industry and the world of idols, for which having relationships is always precarious and can threaten idol careers. This was a unique departure from mangaka Seina’s World’s End Blue Bird series, which was a sort of science fantasy multi-volume work. I enjoyed it a lot and recommend this one to Omegaverse fans who love the glamorous world of idols.
