A family reunion always brings surprises. But nothing could prepare Liv and her family for what awaits them at PERFEDDION—the lonely manor on the outskirts of town, where Uncle Guido has invited everyone to meet his mysterious new girlfriend. Hidden in its halls and lurking in the shadows, something far worse than mere ghosts inhabits this house.

They don’t know it, but Perfeddion has a rule: You won’t leave without facing your deepest fears.

This was an entertaining and disturbing manga. As soon as I read the title, I knew it had to be set in Wales, and the back-end material after the story confirmed it: Perfeddion is a country house in Pembrokeshire–which I’ve been to! So, it’s in gorgeous country.

Too bad the house is completely twisted. Guido invites his entire family there to visit as a sort of family reunion, and the place is bustling and alive with children and adults of varying ages.

Disturbing things happen to all of them. And it’s incredibly entertaining. Even the infant isn’t spared.

The house is more than just haunted–it’s designed to play upon your own fears and manifest them in real life. Guido’s girlfriend–a mysterious entity we don’t see until the end, and honestly, is it really his girlfriend?–seems to play a part in getting the house to feed on people. I was never entirely convinced (or completely understood) why Guido would give his family up to the house’s tormenting ways, or that he eventually wanted his father to move in with him (where the same things would happen)! It was all delivered kind of quickly at the end.

Speaking of the ending, it’s really unique. There’s a breaking of the fourth wall that simultaneously bothered me but amused me as well.

I don’t have too much more to say about this manga except that it was quite a ride. What happens to the little girl Liv in the attic/secret room is probably one of the most disturbing things readers will see, aside from a mother turning into a monster in the woods who chases down the young children. There’s a ton of creepy imagery, and since I enjoy things like this, I had a good time.

4/5 stars.

I was provided a digital ARC directly from TOKYOPOP and am happy to review this of my own accord. You can get Perfeddion digitally now wherever eBooks are sold, or preorder the hard copy directly from the publisher.
