This emotional boys love oneshot by BL artist Sai Asai, featuring two childhood friends turned lovers in a beautiful seaside town, explores the enduring power of love beyond memory.

Each day, Rihito confesses to Arata, and their relationship begins anew.

At the end of each day, Arata forgets.

One year ago, a strange comet passed over Earth, leaving countless individuals with inexplicable memory loss…

One such individual was Arata. Not only did he lose his memories of falling in love with his childhood friend, but also the ability to make new ones.

Unwilling to give up hope, Rihito logs each day they spend together by the sea and refuses to leave Arata’s side—even if it means abandoning his own future.

When each new day dawns with hope and ends with heartbreak, how many days can a forgotten love endure…?

Content Warnings: Mature themes, sexual content.

This is a gorgeous, slightly science fiction BL love story that kept my attention all the way through and tugged at my heartstrings.

Every morning opens with Arata waking up in the back of a car…

And then it turns out he’s at the beach with his best friend, Rihito. The day always starts out new and exciting for Arata, and then Rihito always makes a love confession to him. Arata is always startled at first, but reciprocates the feelings, and the day ends with a date and sweet lovemaking. In the night, before falling asleep, Arata sees the comet that took his memories away shine through the sky–a hallucination that affects all of those who lost their memories the night the real comet appeared a year ago.

Sometimes Rihito takes Arata to the aquarium. Sometimes they go in town to a love hotel. Most of the time they end up at the beach in Rihito’s car.

The fact that Rihito confesses every day to Arata, and Arata has no memory of their past love or the days Rihito confesses, is a sort of torture for Rihito, even though Arata welcomes him in his arms. He just hopes for a day where their lives can continue on, memories intact.

Arata finds evidence of his memory loss–ticket stubs from the aquarium, Rihito’s journal–and Rihito explains what happened to Arata. Arata tries not to fall asleep so he can hold on to the memories they made that day, but he can’t help himself. And then the memories are wiped.

I don’t want to go into too much more detail than that. Just know that every confession from Rihito is filled with great emotion, and Arata’s genuine shock and then admittance he likes Rihito back is fulfilling. And then you feel sad when all of that goes away again.

I loved this story. I found it incredibly sweet and emotional. As always, I tend to focus on the expressions in the art of the characters, and Sai Asai does not disappoint. Rihito’s pain is particularly vividly drawn and made me feel ALL THE THINGS. There’s something about men in manga openly crying that gets to me every time, and I found myself tearing up at this story. Five stars.
