This first volume was so much fun! I really enjoyed reading this.

Kieran has a complex against werewolves–one fateful night, Kieran and his mother are in the woods when a werewolf attacks. Kieran is saved by his mother’s use of “charmspeak,” but the wolf kills his mother. The event haunts Kieran in his dreams for years, and he has vowed at his mother’s grave to take vengeance.

Flash forward to the present, and Kieran is a regular high school student with his best friend Marcella, and a new student arrives: Mason. Kieran feels an instant attraction to Mason’s blood but a revulsion at Mason’s very presence. The two bicker immediately.

However, amid all of the fighting and literal snarling at each other, there’s an undeniable chemistry that confuses the both of them–especially when they share a kiss. This partially happens because Mason thought Kieran was gay and Kieran runs with Mason’s assumption despite Kieran believing he is straight.

Spoiler alert: these kiddos aren’t straight and totally are attracted to each other, and it’s a joy seeing them fight each other and their attraction.

A lot of stuff happens and eventually Kieran is revealed to be a vampire and Mason a werewolf when the vampires and werewolves meet up to reaffirm an ancient peace pact between the two. This, of course, complicates the relationship between Kieran and Mason…but they just can’t stay away from each other!

This comic is truly and enemies-to-lovers story and I had such a blast reading it. The artwork is gorgeous, the character depictions dynamic, and the pace is fast. I like Kieran as the lead and enjoy his constant self-doubt and back-and-forth between hating Mason and liking him. The comic ends on a cliffhanger amid more conflict, so I’m eagerly awaiting Volume Two.
