I saw Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996) in the movie theater with my brother and sister. It was a Disney movie unlike any I had seen before, and the music was tremendous.
Perhaps the most disturbing song in the movie is “Hellfire,” sung by Claude Frollo as he struggles with his lust over Esmeralda. It’s a dark song.
So, why is this in my head?
YouTube populating random stuff in my recommendations. For some reason, this clip popped up:
I don’t know if this was a college or community theatre or special production of Hunchback, but for some reason my recommendations were like, “here you go!”
Which, of course, led me back to the original with its incredible animation:
And now…NOW IT IS STUCK IN MY HEAD.
Right before I go to sleep, I’ll be thinking about the day as it happened, or worrying about tomorrow, and then suddenly it’s
HELLFIRE
DARK FIRE
THIS FIRE IN MY SKIN
And then the song goes from there.
This is probably one of the darkest, weirdest earworms to have, but there you go.
