The Birthstone Book Tag

This is a unique book tag I found via Zezee with Books. I love sparkly glittery things, and I love books, so hey! This is the perfect combination of prompts for a tag! Read on, friends!

ཻ۪۪♡.

January (Garnet): associated with warding off negative forces and dark energies.

Name a book with the darkest/evilest character you can think of.

the cover to Kentaro Miura's volume 1 of BERSERK

Gonna have to go with Griffith for this one. He's a compelling villain but what he sacrifices to reach his goals is absolutely disturbing.

February (Amethyst): purple is associated with royalty.

Name a book with regal qualities. You can base this off of characters or choose the King of all books.

I picked this book because it focuses mostly on royal families rather than the common folk, although they do make an appearance in this novel. I wouldn't call this the King of All Books, but it was entertaining enough.

March (Aquamarine): washed out.

Name a ‘wishy washy’ character, a character who is not strong or a follower.

I'm totally stumped on this one.

April (Diamond): a diamond in the rough.

Name a book that you loved but is not well known.

This one was really hard for me because this book might very well be well-known because the author is Jeff Vandermeer. But this came out in 2009 and I haven't seen it around in bookstores since. It was chosen reading for students at Seton Hill University's Writing Popular Fiction Program. So it could be known among a niche of writers, but I don't know if the general public knows about it.

May (Emerald): said to balance energy.

Name two characters who balance each other well.

Although I have some issues with them, I think Cardan and Jude are the match for each other.

June (Pearl): associated with loyalty.

Name a character who is loyal to the end.

I love this book, but I'm starting to forget it more and more as time passes. However, I think Silas, despite being in a contract with Nathaniel, ended up a pretty devoted character!

July (Ruby): blood red.

Name a book that made your blood boil; one that made you angry.

There are several books being rapid-released with sprayed edges and fancy covers by the same publisher specializing in romantasy, and I've watched deep-dive criticisms of the books, plus read reviews and excerpts myself, and they are crap. But they've made so much money and are wildly successful on Bookstagram and BookTok. I know I shouldn't compare my success with other authors, but it makes me wonder what I'm doing wrong, even though I like my book very much.

August (Peridot): pale green (it pales in comparison to other gems).

Name a supporting character who you like better than the main character.

I like Mordred more than Arthur. Oops!

September (Sapphire): blue like the ocean which is calming.

Name a book that had a calming effect on you.

When I was in college, I was really struggling during my last year. I was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was assigned a new therapist through the university named Bruce. He was great. He knew that I loved reading and recommended books that might help me all the time. I don't know why I didn't stick around with him, but this book was one of his recommendations and it made me feel calm. I didn't always stick to the advice (following advice is really hard for me for some reason) but it was a solid read.

October (Opal): iridescent.

Name an iridescent book, this can be a book with a beautiful cover (shiny, lots of color) or you can base it off of a character (quirky, colorful).

This is one of the prettiest books I own. I got the Barnes and Noble exclusive edition, and while I'm not sure what's exclusive about it, I really like the texture of the cover and the purple/magenta foil letters.

November (Topaz): associated with resilience.

Name a book with a character who rises to the top in a time of adversity.

I don't know how accurate my choice is because I've never really read the books or seen the movie series all the way through, but Katniss not only survives the Hunger Games but she becomes a symbol for resistance, and she survives to live a quiet life after everything is said and done. ...Right?

December (blue zircon): associated with friendship.

Name a book with a friendship you want to be apart of.

The friends group in this series (duology) are pretty tight and were very entertaining to read. I wouldn't mind hanging out with them if I was their age.
