I wasn't tagged for this but I found this on Whispering Stories and thought I'd play.

  • Link back to the person who tagged you or the blog where you first saw this tag. (Whispering Stories)

  • Answer all prompts.

  • Add one more prompt of your own.

Never Have I Ever…read a later book in a series before reading the first book

Nope. I have never done this, luckily. I think I would be really confused if I did.

Never Have I Ever…burned a book

Nope. I'm against book burnings.

Never Have I Ever…read a book I knew I would hate

I wanted to hate-read a popular YA book that was a TikTok darling but instead I watched all the BookTubers tear it apart in hilarious ways. I will never actually read the book now; I'm pretty turned off by it at this point.

Never Have I Ever…written a fanfiction about my favorite books

I'm in the process of coming up with ideas for one--Heaven Official's Blessing!

Never Have I Ever…loved a book when I was young, yet hated it when I got older

I loved a world-famous children's fantasy series and never, ever thought I would dislike it, but since I'm older I've watched a lot of BookTubers dissect its more harmful qualities that I unfortunately turned a blind eye to when the books were at the height of their popularity. Also, the other has since proved herself to be a monster, and I can't separate the art from the artist, so I donated my entire collection and will never buy or read anything by her again.

Never Have I Ever…dressed up as one of my favorite literary characters

So, cosplaying is my hobby, and I very seriously attempted to cosplay as my character Andresh from my book The Name and the Key. I sewed things together but I gained weight and was never able to wear it, unfortunately. I don't know if I still have it or not. I want to cosplay as Hua Cheng from Heaven Official's Blessing very, very badly,

Never Have I Ever…hated a book by an author I love

I really enjoyed the first book in a trilogy by an author I liked, but the second book was full of overly flowery language and felt like a different beast altogether. I strongly disliked it and have never finished the series because of it.

Never Have I Ever…gone into a bookstore to buy one book and come out with many more

I've definitely done this. Three seems to be my magic number, in that I go in for one and come out with three. Sometimes more, but mostly three.

Never Have I Ever…read the ending of a book before reading the beginning

I've never done this. I've read the beginning and skipped to the end before out of impatience, but I've never just gone right to an ending before.

Never Have I Ever…read a book without the dust cover

I leave dust covers on. I think so many of them are pretty!

Never Have I Ever…skim-read nearly half a book

I did this recently with a new sci-fi/thriller novel. It alternated between the present and past. The present situation was absolutely life-or-death dire, and the flashbacks took away from it. So after a few of these flashbacks, I just started skipping them. I still gave the book four stars because the present scenes were enthralling, but I think the past scenes dragged the book down.

Never Have I Ever….pretended to have read a book that I haven’t

I did this in graduate school, unfortunately, and was not always successful at hiding this fact. I still cringe at residency when we were assigned group discussions and all but one person had read the book--and it definitely wasn't me!

Never Have I Ever….seen the movie before the book

I saw the Lord of the Rings trilogy before reading the series.

Never Have I Ever…. had a book boyfriend

I've never had a book boyfriend but I've crushed on characters before, like Nathaniel Thorn from Sorcery of Thorns and Grey from the Cursebreakers series.

My addition: Never Have I Ever...DNF'd in my favorite genre

I've been in a reading funk with YA fantasy lately and have DNF'd nearly everything I've set out to read. I'm not sure what my deal is. But YA fantasy is my favorite genre, and I'm disappointed I'm in this slump.
