Books I'll Probably Never Read Tag

A pile of books with ripped pages - Books I'll Probably Never Read Tag

I found this tag over at Zezee With Books and there's quite a long list of tags to choose from. With October kind of being a slow month for me, I'll be relying on tags for most of this month, which are extremely fun for me to do! I thought I'd give this one a try because there are just certain books I don't feel like touching, and I wonder if you all feel the same way.

A REALLY HYPED BOOK YOU'RE NOT INTERESTED IN READING

I've seen this book everywhere. All over Barnes and Noble; all over BookTube. And I heard it made the rounds on TikTok, too. It has 548,318 ratings on Goodreads! And...I have no desire to read it. I watched several deep dive YouTube videos going over the text and characters in detail, and after viewing these, I have decided my time is better served reading other books instead.

A SERIES YOU WON'T START/WON'T BE FINISHING

I'm not interested in starting the Game of Thrones series because they're quite big books, there are many books within the series, and the series as of now is unfinished. So I won't be giving these books a try.

A CLASSIC YOU'RE JUST NOT INTERESTED IN

I'm just not interested in reading about a bunch of young boys bullying and turning on each other in a situation where everyone needs to survive. I know that sounds interesting, but I think children can be really cruel, and I don't want to read about that.

ANY GENRES YOU NEVER READ?

I will never, ever read alternate histories of the Civil War that imagine the Confederacy winning. The Confederacy was treasonous and wrong, and slavery was (and is) evil, and I don't want to read anything that would suggest otherwise or picture a world where the South won. The fact that there is a whole genre of these books grosses me out.

A BOOK ON YOUR SHELVES YOU WILL PROBABLY NEVER ACTUALLY READ

I own this as a hard copy and in eBook form, and I've never read it. I think I thought some sort of osmosis would happen just by owning the book, like my life would change simply by buying it. As it turns out, I am a messy person and am intimidated by the contents of this book, and will probably never actually read it.

I'm really curious of any of you have books you've decided you won't touch. Care to share? I hope you do. Feel free to reply in the comments!

Are there alternate history books that imagine the South winning the Civil War as a good thing? Because yuck. I did think that The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead, which imagines the underground railroad as literal, was an innovative and interesting book, but Whitehead still shows the brutality of slavery, even if he plays with some of the facts. I'm pretty open about books but I do not want to read dark romance novels that romanticize abuse and rape. I've read a little bit of Hunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton in the bookstore and it gave me the heebie jeebies.

Admittedly I don't know of any books where the South winning is depicted as a good thing, but I'm sure there are some out there where the South is depicted in a flattering light. I've heard of Haunting Adeline from BookTube and I don't think I'll be picking that one up.
