Give your city (or town or region) a new name that reflects what type of place it is, and explain why you chose that name.
I would rename my hometown Exodus. This is because people keep leaving due to crime, limited job availability, and demographics changes. My hometown has a lot of murder for a city of its size and I'm sure that's no comfort to anyone. There are also drug problems, too. As for the job situation, there's work in factories, healthcare, retail, and commercial trucking, but there's like nothing else (this comes from a girl who took two years to find a job locally). I tried to find work that paid me more money (like a living wage!) and couldn't break into it. So I'm back in education, only part-time (although I shouldn't complain; my health is only allowing me part-time work anyway). As for the change in demographics, the population is getting older and there are not a lot of opportunities for younger people around here. We have great things like The Mansfield Art Center and Kingwood Center, but I don't know if that's enough to sate the youth.
Not all of this is fact--a lot of it is conjecture and personal observation. I just know that people are leaving this place, have been for a while, to seek opportunities elsewhere. Hence the name, Exodus.
