2024 saw an abysmal lack of genre diversity from me as I buried myself in BL when I wasn't having multiple reading blocks. Reading BL isn't bad at all, but usually I read several genres a year to make up an interesting Year in Books column where I do "best ofs" for the genres. 2024 didn't see much of that. I read a lot, but also less than last year. 2024 was just a different ballgame.
So what do I want to do for 2025? I think I'm going to up my book goal to 200 books since I've done two years in a row of going over that amount naturally. But I have goals for genres this time around.
For a couple years in a row I've tried to read 5-10 YA books a year, only to ultimately fail. I'm going to choose an easy number and assign it to more than one genre: here goes.
What I Want to Read in 2025...
Two YA fantasies
Two adult horror novels
Two romances
Two middle grades
Two nonfiction books (likely writing craft/writing business books)
This list does not include the hundreds of comics, manga, and BL I naturally consume in a year.
I'm keeping the numbers simple because I actually want to meet my genre goal this year!
Wish me luck, please!
