I’ve had this one in my head for months on and off, but it’s really kicked up in the past week or so, and I’m not sure why.

I am not good at discovering new or popular music. I still listen to anisongs and music I downloaded while I lived in Japan, and it’s been four years since I moved back home so…that should give you an idea about how aware I am of music that’s come out.

I only discovered this song through a YouTube recommendation for the video. Apparently it came out September 2025 and was used in the Tim Burton series Wednesday, which I’ve never watched. I *do* know that Tim Burton directed Lady Gaga’s music video thanks to YouTube, and I think it was inspired by the La Isla de las Muñecas south of Mexico City. Take a look at it:

I didn’t know what to make of the song first. I thought it was a bit tame compared to Lady Gaga’s “Disease,” a song that I absolutely love. But I heard “The Dead Dance” one more time a little later after watching the video, and that was enough to sell me on it fully. And now, for whatever reason, it’s completely stuck in my head.

I will try to go to sleep at night to prepare for work in the morning and I’ll be minding my own business and Gaga will be in my head going, “DO THE DEAD DANCE!” over and over again. It’s not reached the level where the earworm is like torture; it’s just a song that invades the empty space in my head whenever I want to go silent. I like the song, so it’s not so bad. I’d just like to sleep, that’s all.
