Amazon Removes English Dub Featuring AI Voices For Popular Anime Banana Fish After Audience Backlash

Amazon appears to have removed an English dub track that featured AI voices from the anime series Banana Fish after fans spotted that there was an “AI beta” of an English dub included in the ‘Audio Languages’ option on the streamer.

A video that highlighted the AI voices used in the dub made its way through social media and led to some serious criticism from subscribers, fans, influencers, and more.

If you have been keeping up with this blog, why, just a few days ago I posted a rant about the hideous AI dub of Banana Fish and the implications of using AI. I wasn’t the only one to voice my concerns to the internet. Voice actor Daman Mills, who I previously said would make a great Ash, let his feelings be known, too:

Yes! Banana Fish deserves to be treated like the important work that it is. That means hiring experienced, talented English-speaking voice actors in the roles (follow my suggestion and cast Mills as Ash). That means releasing a high-quality Blu Ray/DVD package with the English and Japanese dubs. Extras like a little short documentary about Banana Fish‘s role in BL/queer manga would be excellent, too.

So let’s rejoice! Get enough angry people, make enough protests, deny them your time and your wallet…even though I’m talking about anime here, these pieces are the recipe for change.
